Counselling

What Does a Guidance Counsellor Do?

Student success is about more than classroom achievement. In addition to the knowledge gained in their course work, students need to develop skills to help them navigate life’s difficult times, establish healthy relationships and discover their life’s purpose and passion.

A school guidance counsellor is a certified teacher with extensive training in counselling psychology. Guidance counsellors work on behalf of students and their families to support the educational, personal/social and career growth and development of students.

At Canmore Collegiate High School, we offer a number of supports intended to help meet the academic, social and emotional needs of students:

  • Individual academic and personal counselling

  • Crisis counselling

  • Psycho-educational groups for interpersonal and life-skills coaching

  • Referrals to community agencies and additional mental health supports

  • Referrals to the CRPS Family-School Liaison Counsellor

Booking an Appointment

Students may request an appointment themselves by coming in to the Student Services office in person.

Parents may wish to book appointments by email (kim.janse@crps.ca) or by phone (403-678-6192). Please be aware that demand is often very high for counselling services at school and there may be a significant wait time for an appointment.

The guidance counsellor at Canmore Collegiate High School is Kim Janse (kim.janse@crps.ca)
