Each January, Grade 9 students at Canmore Collegiate High School have the opportunity to participate in the Career Exploration Program - an immersive, hands-on experience that connects them with local employers across diverse industries. This unique program is offered for five days during the high school exam period, providing students with the chance to explore various career paths and gain valuable insights into the world of work.
Through partnerships with local employers in the public, private, and non-profit sectors, CCHS students have access to placements in fields such as healthcare, conservation, media, technology, and more. Previous program partners have included Alberta Environment and Parks, Alberta Health Services, ArtsPlace, Banff Sports Medicine, Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley, Mountain FM 106.5, Parks Canada, and many others, each offering students a real-world look at potential career options.
During the week-long placements, students participate in “learning by doing” tasks, working within real workplace settings to build foundational skills and gain practical knowledge. This program, exclusive to Canadian Rockies Public Schools, helps students connect classroom learning with their future, supporting informed choices for their high school studies and career paths.
