Career and Life Management (CALM 20) is a foundational course for all Grade 10 students at Canmore Collegiate High School, designed to help them develop essential life skills and make informed decisions about their future. This course provides students with the tools they need to navigate personal, financial, and career-related challenges, fostering growth in self-awareness, goal-setting, and responsible decision-making.

CALM 20 covers three main areas that guide students in understanding how careers, relationships, health, and finances impact their lives:

  • Personal Choices: Students explore topics such as health, wellness, relationships, and personal responsibility, helping them understand the impact of their choices on themselves and those around them. They gain insight into managing stress, developing healthy relationships, and building resilience, which are key to personal success and well-being.

  • Resource Choices: This segment focuses on financial literacy, teaching students the fundamentals of budgeting, saving, and planning for the future. By understanding the importance of managing resources responsibly, students develop practical skills that will support their financial independence in adulthood.

  • Career and Life Choices: Through job preparation and career exploration modules, students identify their interests, strengths, and career aspirations. They engage in activities such as resume building, job search techniques, and goal setting, preparing them for post-secondary education or entry into the workforce. Modules like CTR 1010 Job Preparation and CTR 2310 Career Directions help students chart their career paths and build confidence in their future direction.

CALM 20 empowers students by increasing their self-awareness and equipping them with the skills to make positive contributions to their community. With a focus on personal growth, financial responsibility, and career readiness, this course is essential in helping students become informed, engaged, and responsible individuals who are well-prepared for life beyond high school.
