Îyarhe Nakoda Youth Program

Cultural Connection, Community, and Confidence

The Îyarhe Nakoda Youth Program (INYP) offers students from the Stoney Nakoda First Nation an opportunity to strengthen identity, build confidence, and form deep community ties through culture-based experiences. The program runs at CCHS twice a month during school hours and includes group sessions that last approximately 90 minutes, with meals or snacks provided.

Led by Stoney Health Services and supported by respected Elders and Knowledge Keepers, INYP brings students together in a safe space to explore cultural teachings, language, and traditions. Activities are rooted in a holistic approach that supports well-being, healing, and personal growth.

Youth outreach workers - including Gabriel Young, Danielle Lefthand, Earl Makinaw-Labelle, and Carlene Stevens - bring a wealth of lived experience, cultural knowledge, and care to the program. Through sharing circles, workshops, mentorship, and celebration of Indigenous ways of knowing, they help students stay connected to community and inspired in their learning.
