Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and learning are woven into the fabric of school life at Canmore Collegiate High School (CCHS). Guided by CRPS' Knowledge Keepers and shaped by respectful partnerships with students, families, and local Nations, these initiatives support identity, celebrate culture, and create space for belonging and pride.
Throughout the year, students participate in school-wide events and experiences that honour Indigenous traditions and histories. A tipi is regularly raised by Knowledge Keepers and students to mark special occasions, and the school community gathers each year for a Truth and Reconciliation Ceremony that centres Indigenous voices and stories.
Students planning for life beyond high school are supported through events like the Indigenous Student Post-Secondary Night, while graduating students are offered the opportunity to personalize their ceremonies in meaningful ways. Grad caps are provided early so students can bead them ahead of time, and there is space for Chiefs and Councillors to attend and present blankets, feathers, or other honours as they choose.
These practices reflect CCHS’ ongoing commitment to reconciliation, representation, and relationships, helping to ensure Indigenous students see themselves, their culture, and their futures reflected and respected throughout their learning journey.
