French Immersion

A Pathway to Bilingual Confidence and Global Opportunity

French Immersion at Canmore Collegiate High School (CCHS) offers students a dynamic, bilingual learning experience that begins in Gr. 9 and continues through high school. Students entering Gr. 9 will come from a French Immersion program, a Francophone school, or a French-speaking household. Core subjects taught include French Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, and Science, while English Language Arts, Physical Education, Digital Literacy, and complementary courses are delivered in English. This balanced model supports academic success in both languages and builds a strong foundation for future learning.

Since 2024, students have been continuing their French studies through French Language Arts (FLA) 10, followed by FLA 20 and 30. These high school courses are designed to support a range of French language proficiencies while guiding students toward graduation and beyond.

FLA 10 welcomes learners with varying strengths in French, whether advanced or still growing. Through a focus on reading, writing, speaking, and listening, students engage with texts, explore identity, and develop fluency in ways that match their readiness. Instruction is differentiated to challenge learners appropriately, with an emphasis on both academic development and real-world communication.

This unified pathway leads to FLA 20 and FLA 30, preparing students to challenge the internationally recognized DELF B2 exam - a valuable credential accepted by universities, employers, and institutions worldwide as proof of French proficiency.

At every stage, CCHS’ French Immersion program is more than language instruction, rather it’s a bridge to cultural understanding, lifelong opportunity, and global citizenship.
