Wolverine Weekly March 2nd, 2025
CCHS celebrated Pink Shirt Day this week and it was great to see all the pink shirts in the hallway. Thanks to Ms. Haywood Farmer for putting together the activities for this important week. We hope to continue to see kindness throughout our school everyday. Thank you to the 30 parents who joined our Parent Micro Session on French at CCHS. We had a mix of FSL and French Immersion families join us who were excited about the pathways we are offering to our students. The presentation we gave, and all the others from our Parent Micro Sessions this year, can be found HERE. Thanks to our high school Environmental Sustainability course students who worked with our Alpenglow Kindy’s this week to help them mix soil and plant seeds.
Student Wellness Advisory Groups for 2025-2026 school year
This year all CRPS school have explored initiatives to build a stronger feeling of student belonging, stronger connections to adult advocates and at the high school level the opportunity for skill building in areas like study skills, exam preparation, social emotional skills, post secondary applications and pathways, career exploration and other skills that are essential to life after high school. These ideas were gathered from parent feedback at school council meetings, in our Community Engagement Networks as well as surveys sent out by the Division and Alberta Education.
Our elementary and middle schools have begun or are just beginning to use the ‘house’ system to encourage connections between students across the grades and as an opportunity to build community at their schools. These schools are organized by ‘homeroom’ and have the opportunity to connect with students on the topics listed above inherent in their school timetable. At the high school level we have explored and begun to plan Student Wellness Advisory Groups to run 3 times a week for 30 mins each time in the 2025-2026 school year. These are to be research based, cross grade, small, teacher led groups that are part of the timetable for all CCHS and BCHS students. To reach a broader audience than our school council, where this has been discussed multiple times, we are offering a Parent Micro Session on Thursday March 13th from 6:30-7pm to focus on this initiative. This session will be offered in person and virtually: meet.google.com/xns-mryp-bhe

WimWe Grade 10 Cross Country Ski Trips in March
The Great Divide trail, which we typically use for xc skiing, is closed this winter. We are going to use the Pipestone trail system at Lake Louise for skiing in March. Alternate location is the Bow River Loop/campground loop in Lake Louise. Our Outdoor Learning Center provides all the necessary equipment for this trip and also has emergency clothing for those who require it. We are so grateful to the Pauw Foundation for funding the WimWe experience so that all students in grade 10 have access to our amazing wilderness without financial barriers.

Post Secondary studies in which the language of instruction is French
In April, students in French Immersion and French Language Arts will get a visit from a representative from the Campus Saint-Jean which is the Francophone section of the University of Alberta. On April 2nd the representative will explain what to expect from and what the benefits are of doing a degree in which the language of instruction is French. We will be holding a Parent Micro Session to share this information with families on April 2nd at 6pm. Here is the virtual link meet.google.com/vrn-ycfx-xcb
Resources
At CCHS we believe our teachers are best situated to provide resources and study tools for our students preparing for exams. They know your child best as a learner and can help them identify areas that they should focus on and those that they have strengths in. We are confident that your child’s classroom teacher will provide all the tools and information they need to prepare for their exams. However, we recognize that some families like to use outside resources to support their students. As a result we are passing on this information below for interested families. Please note the school does not accept payment for these resources.
The Key order here.
