Wolverine Weekly January 19th 2025

Congratulations to our Senior Girls Basketball team who won the High River Tournament.  Congratulations to our Grade 9 Boys team who won their home tournament.  Congratulations to our Grade 9 Girls team who placed 2nd in their home tournament.  Thanks to volunteer coaches Jenny Mackenzie, Robin Baron, Erika Groman, Steve Ellis, Jim Bachman, Dayton Howard, Neil Villanueva, Julian Asselstine, Megan Howard and Cayla Wolever for the hundreds of hours they have committed to coaching this team.

Smudge Google Form

Thanks to the 250 families who filled out our Smudge Information Form.  If you did not already do so we encourage you to fill this out on behalf of your student now.  Students in our Aboriginal Studies 30 course will begin their class learning about smudging and will have the choice to participate in this cultural activity on January 29th during block D.  The smudge will take place outside or, in case of inclement weather, in the music room with the windows open.  This will be led by Knowledge Keepers Virgle Stephens and Ollie Benjamin.

Grade 9’s Doing Career Explorations This Week

Thank you to Mr. Holthuis and Ms. Howatt for supporting students with matching with placements.  This is a reminder that students have committed to this program for the whole week unless organized in advance with the employer or stated otherwise on their workplace agreement.  We work hard to find our volunteer placements and we appreciate parents' support in having their student attend the entire experience.  If illness or other unexpected issues arise please contact hans.holthuis@crps.ca as soon as possible.

Grade 12 Course Changes for Graduation and Post Secondary

Please review our student handbook for information regarding course changes for semester 2 for grade 12 students.  We only make course changes for students who need a course to graduate, need to change a course due to a failure in the prerequisite or who require a course to apply to post secondary.  We strongly encourage grade 12’s to review their grad plan, meet with Mr. O and then email annabel.preece@crps.ca with the required course change THIS WEEK.  It is very important that students begin in a class on the first day.

School Council Jan 21st 2025 7pm

Our next School Council meeting is scheduled for Jan 21st at 7pm.  We encourage all parents to join us either in person in the cafeteria or online at this link meet.google.com/qaf-tzzz-rsq  Here is the Agenda for the meeting.

Textbooks - your ticket into your exam!  But … you still have to write on your scheduled day!

The average single high school textbook costs between $80-150.  Each year CCHS spends a lot of money replacing lost textbooks.  In an effort to reduce this drain on our financial resources we will be collecting in textbooks at the entrance to our exam room each day.  A student’s textbook for each subject will be their ‘ticket’ into their exam for semestered classes.  If your student forgets their textbook or has lost it they are still required to write their exam on the scheduled date.  All textbooks are signed out via our library to your student’s account and so we have accurate records as to who has and has not signed out a textbook. Textbooks not returned on exam day (or prior to) will be charged to student fees in Parent Portal.  Students in year-long courses are only expected to hand in those textbooks in June.

Exam Schedule and Exam Rules

You can find the exam schedule in the banner of our website.  We are bound by Alberta Education rules and regulations for our exams.  No device with any internet connection is allowed into the exam room even if it is not being used.  In addition students may not use any device with internet capability during exams.  Bringing in such a device results in disciplinary action led by Alberta Education.  This can include being disqualified from the exam.  Please, remind your students they must not bring cellphones, bluetooth devices (including smartwatches, headphones etc) or any device with any internet capability, even if it is NOT BEING USED in the exam, into the exam room.  We make multiple announcements about this before exams start.  Students must leave these devices at home, in their locker or at our main office.  They are NOT allowed in the exam rooms under any circumstances.
