Wolverine Weekly June 8 2025

Wolverine Weekly June 8th 2025
Ms Keon and I really enjoyed celebrating our athletes at the Athletics Awards Night on Tuesday and our artists (in all their forms of artistic expression) at the Raven Awards on Thursday. We are grateful to the many community sponsors who gave out monetary awards to our Raven and Magpie award winners. In addition, the Rotary Club recognized our top volunteer hour earners at a special breakfast on Wednesday this week. Congratulations all!
Thank you to Darren Anderson and his athletics staff for organizing and hosting the Athletic Awards. Thank you to Rob VanderLee, Rowan Hill and Sue Gerrior along with the CTS and Fine Arts team for putting together and hosting the Raven Awards. Thank you to Matt Onyschuk for collecting and calculating volunteer hours and for supervising students at the celebratory breakfast at the Rotary Club. We recognize the top three hour earners (submitted by mid May) at each grade level, starting from zero each year. In addition we recognize our top 3 overall hour earners for their grand cumulative total. You can read about our student volunteer achievers HERE. We hope your students are inspired to get involved in athletics, follow their passion in the Arts or to change their community for the better through giving of their time.
Every class between now and June 13th is important. Please ensure your student attends all classes daily so we can best support student in preparing for final exams. The teachers know what is on the exam and know what your student needs to review! Being in the classroom with their teacher this week gives your student the best possible preparation. The last day of classes is Friday June 13th. After that, students are only required to be at school for their scheduled final exam. Students are dismissed directly after each of their exams. Students who are looking for a quiet workspace can study at school in the cafeteria or in the Learning Center but we do not provide teacher supervision for these areas. If your student wants to connect with their teacher during exam break it is best to email them to make an appointment as teachers are scheduled to do exam supervision, marking and report card writing during this time. Much as teachers are happy to meet with students during exam break, they may not always be available for unplanned drop ins!
Work Experience - Get paid AND earn credits this summer!
Have you completed HCS 3000 Workplace Safety (typically done in Grade 9 Digital Literacy - formerly Computers 9 - Mr. O can tell you if you have completed it)? Do you have a part time job? Are you already in Grade 10 or above? If so, you could earn high school credit AND get paid by your employer for your summer job or your part time job during the next school year. Read the information below carefully then see Ms. Timm in the library to sign up. If you plan on earning summer credits please connect with Ms. Timm before June 20th so she has time to do the required site safety inspection and connect with your supervisor and you have time to get your documents to her before the deadline of June 27th. Note: Hours can not be submitted retroactively for insurance reasons.
Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,
Are you or a student you know interested in earning Work Experience credits for employment during the summer and/or part-time throughout the year?
Students can earn one credit for every 25 hours worked, up to a maximum of 15 credits, which can be applied toward the 100 credits required for graduation. These can be 30 level credits!
If students already have a job secured, register for work experience by June 27th. The following steps outline the registration process:
- Student Registration: The student and a parent or guardian must complete the Parent/Guardian & Student Work Experience Registration Form.
- Employer Registration: Students should discuss this opportunity with their employer to ensure their support because the employer will be sent an Employer Registration Form (sent directly to them via email) that is similar to the student's registration form. This ensures everyone is aware of what is happening and is on board.
- Monthly Submissions: Students will be sent an invitation to join a Google Classroom where they will submit their proof of hours worked and a brief reflection on their experience at the end of each month.
If students are applying for a job but do not have it secured yet, we would love for you to still get credits. Still apply using the directions above as soon as possible and we will try our best to get you registered.
Work experience can conclude at the end of the summer or continue into the school year, depending on the student's ongoing employment and interest in earning additional credits.
If you have any questions, please email us at offcampus@crps.ca for more information.
Timetables
We have handed out our into Grade 9 and into Grade 10 timetables. We hope to get into Grade 11 timetables out on Monday and into Grade 12 timetables out on Tuesday. We are hand checking each timetable before it goes out to try to reduce computer errors that can be easily fixed by us.
Please carefully read the information below before requesting timetable changes:
Only paper copies are available as our public parent portal will only show this current school year until August.
Our timetables are partially created by a computer using a system that prioritizes option classes and core classes that have less sections available and takes into account the order of preferences that a student indicated. Our system is not infallible and sometimes it makes decisions that are different from what your student wants when there is a conflict!
Into Grade 9 and Into Grade 10 - We DO make changes to options UNTIL June 18th at 3:30 pm. If there is room in an option we are happy to change your option for you BEFORE June 18th.
*Reminder into Grade 10 French Language Arts timetables were redone on Friday. Please pick up your new timetable Monday before school at the office and look at it first before requesting a timetable change.
After June 18th we CANNOT make changes to courses unless a course is required for graduation or post secondary. Staffing and the timetable are constructed with initial student choices as guidelines and after June 18th we cannot make any other changes to these.
Into Grade 9 and Into Grade 10 - We DO NOT make changes to core classes unless your student has been placed in the wrong 'stream' (-1, -2, -3). Our Grade 9 teachers worked hard to create balanced Grade 10 timetables that meet students' academic needs. We work in partnership with LGMS staff to create our into Grade 9 cohorts for the same reason.
Into Grade 11 and Into Grade 12 - We DO make changes to all your classes UNTIL June 18th at 3:30 pm. If there is room in a class we are happy to change it for you BEFORE June 18th. After June 18th we CANNOT make changes to courses unless a course is required for graduation or post secondary. Staffing and the timetable are constructed with initial student choices as guidelines. We do open up changes again in August for Into Grade 12 students ONLY who now require a course for graduation or post secondary that they did not know about before. Be aware that it is best to make changes BEFORE June 18th as there is much more flexibility to accommodate your needs in our schedule then than there is in August.
The only way to request a timetable change is to fill in the Google Form that will be made available to students and parents on Monday morning - please do not both fill out a Google Form, we only need one! Please take time to carefully review the timetable with your student then decide if your student needs to fill in the Google Form. For students going into Grade 11 and 12 review what your post secondary choices require and make sure you are on track with those requirements.
The Google Form will ask if a parent would like to attend the meeting as well. We can easily phone you and have you participate in the meeting when we connect with your child to include you or we can make an in person appointment if you prefer. Please fill in the form with as much detail as you can as some changes can easily be made without a meeting (ie. trading one option for another) and this can greatly speed up the process of a timetable change for your student.
The following courses are only offered once in our timetable and therefore if you want to take this course it is in the only spot in your timetable that it can be:
Wild 25
Math 31
*It is not possible to take Math 31 AND Wild 25 as they are in the same block
English 20-2
Math 20-3
Science 24
General Music (in the timetable)
Instrumental Music (at lunch hour)
Environmental Sustainability
Synthetic Biology
Computer Science
Aboriginal Studies 10, 20, 30
FLA 10
FLA 20
Drama (Perf/Tech)
Exam Weeks - Diplomas and PATs start before exam week! *Updated
You can find: May/June Exam Schedule: HERE
Please read all this information carefully with your student(s) and start making plans for a successful exam session!
Check your student does not bring a cell phone, smart watch, earbuds or any other internet or bluetooth connected device into the exam. Alberta Education rules state that if these are brought into a PAT or Diploma exam room the student will be disqualified from the exam and will have to write it in the next session (August for Diplomas). Note that you do not even have to use the device to be disqualified!
Every class between now and June 13th is important. Please ensure your student attends all classes daily so we can best support students in preparing for final exams.
Graduation Ceremony - Participation and Honours Calculation *Updated
Make sure your volunteer hours have also been submitted. Have the person who supervised you fill in this Google Form. Remember this cannot be filled in by you or your parents! 20 volunteer hours are required to participate in our graduation ceremony.
*Reminder* All students must be passing all courses required for graduation and be on track to complete the requirements of a High School Diploma or High School Certificate of Achievement as of June 6th 2025 to be included in our ceremony.
Honours calculations will be made with marks students have on June 9th 2025. Students who achieve honours standing after June 9th will be recognized at our fall Awards Night. See Ms. Bittner or questions about honours. Calculation formulas for Honours are found on pg 15 of our Student Handbook.
As we get closer to our graduation ceremony on June 26th at 11am please help your grade 12 student keep in mind that there is a MANDATORY grad ceremony rehearsal in the gym at 8am on June 25th. We start this early to accommodate students writing the Science 30 Diploma exam at 9am on the day of the rehearsal. The graduation ceremony is NOT a ticketed event. Doors open at 10:30 am and seating is ‘in the round’. After your student has attended the grad rehearsal they will know where they are sitting. They can then tell you the section you should sit in (opposite them gives you the best view) when you arrive. The school does not organize and is not responsible for the graduation banquet however tickets for the banquet are
