Raising Digitally Resilient Kids
Helping children navigate the digital world is more than just setting screen time limits - it’s about building digital resilience. CRPS is encouraging parents to explore MediaSmarts’ “Raising Digitally Resilient Kids” workshop, which provides strategies to help children balance online risks and rewards. Based on research with youth, the session outlines key risk areas and offers practical tools to guide safe and responsible media use. Parents will learn how to create household media rules, evaluate apps and websites, and foster open conversations about digital habits. Handouts cover essential topics, including how to assess online content, support healthy screen time, and protect personal privacy. With children increasingly connected, understanding how to engage with technology wisely is more critical than ever. Explore the workshop resources and help build digital resilience at home! More information is available at MediaSmarts.
Parent Teacher Student Conferences
Information on how to book appointments - see parent email from last week.
Parent-student-teacher conferences are fast approaching! These meetings are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your child’s successes, discover what is being learned, and identify areas that your child might focus on. Here are three questions that you could ask during the meetings:
Please feel free to ask the teacher principal, or assistant principal, if you have questions. |
Alberta Education Assurance Survey - parents asked to complete the survey - watch for your Random Access Code coming home this week
Alberta Education will again be conducting their annual survey of grades 4, 7 and 10 students and their parents or guardians. The survey will gather important information about students’ and parents’ school experiences and will help to inform continuous improvement in our education system. The survey will also be conducted by all teachers in the province. Your input supports improvements in our education system. This year’s survey will take place from February to March 2025, and we strongly encourage all eligible parents or guardians to participate and share your feedback on your child’s or children’s education. By completing the survey, you are helping both Alberta Education and your local school authority identify areas of strength and areas for improvement. When the results are in, Alberta sends them to school authorities, who in turn share them with their local school community and use them to inform their annual education plans.
Small schools (fewer than 120 students in grades 4-12) include all students in grades 4 and above in the survey. Additional details about Alberta Education’s quality assurance measures and framework for monitoring performance in the education system are available at www.alberta.ca/alberta-education-assurance-survey Please contact Ms. Preece if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s participation in the survey

Student Wellness Advisory Groups for 2025-2026 school year
This year all CRPS school have explored initiatives to build a stronger feeling of student belonging, stronger connections to adult advocates and at the high school level the opportunity for skill building in areas like study skills, exam preparation, social emotional skills, post secondary applications and pathways, career exploration and other skills that are essential to life after high school. These ideas were gathered from parent feedback at school council meetings, in our Community Engagement Networks as well as surveys sent out by the Division and Alberta Education.
Our elementary and middle schools have begun or are just beginning to use the ‘house’ system to encourage connections between students across the grades and as an opportunity to build community at their schools. These schools are organized by ‘homeroom’ and have the opportunity to connect with students on the topics listed above inherent in their school timetable. At the high school level we have explored and begun to plan Student Wellness Advisory Groups to run 3 times a week for 30 mins each time in the 2025-2026 school year. These are to be research based, cross grade, small, teacher led groups that are part of the timetable for all CCHS and BCHS students. To reach a broader audience than our school council, where this has been discussed multiple times, we are offering a Parent Micro Session on Thursday March 13th from 6:30-7pm to focus on this initiative. This session will be offered in person and virtually: meet.google.com/xns-mryp-bhe

WimWe Grade 10 Cross Country Ski Trips in March
The Great Divide trail, which we typically use for xc skiing, is closed this winter. We are going to use the Pipestone trail system at Lake Louise for skiing in March. Alternate location is the Bow River Loop/campground loop in Lake Louise. Our Outdoor Learning Center provides all the necessary equipment for this trip and also has emergency clothing for those who require it. We are so grateful to the Pauw Foundation for funding the WimWe experience so that all students in grade 10 have access to our amazing wilderness without financial barriers.
