Wolverine Weekly April 27th 2025

Wolverine Weekly April 27th, 2025

We look forward to welcoming your student(s) back tomorrow morning!  Ms. Keon and I hope you had a relaxing spring break and that you were able to spend some time with your student(s) outside over the past two weeks.  We hope everyone is energized and ready to hit these last 7 weeks before our final exam weeks start. On Monday our students are all invited to participate in the ‘Student Vote’. This is a nationwide initiative to encourage students to get into the habit of voting before they become of age.  At CCHS the Student Vote is spearheaded by Ms. Irvine and supported by the humanities teachers.  Students are encouraged to research who they wish to vote for and to have conversations with their families about their views and how those are shaped.  Results for the Student Vote are reported at the school level and also across the nation.

Scholarship Opportunity - Board of Trustees Legacy Scholarship

With $5,000 in funding for this scholarship for 2024/25, CCHS and BCHS will award scholarships of $1,250, $750, and $500 to support post-secondary education or apprenticeships. Applications opened Nov. 27, with an extended deadline of May 16, 2025, to submit a completed application. Students will submit a media piece showcasing their real-world application of the competencies.  Please check here for more details.

Volunteer Hours

All CCHS students require 20 hours of volunteer service to participate in our CCHS Graduation Ceremony.  These must be submitted by June 6th which is the date we calculate graduation eligibility.  Our Career and Post Secondary Advisor, Mr. O, can provide you with the hours your student has already submitted.  If you have hours to submit you can find the online Google Form HERE or you can continue to submit a paper record to Mr. O in student services.

Graduation Ceremony

As we get closer to our graduation ceremony on June 26th at 11am please help your grade 12 student keep in mind that there is a MANDATORY grad ceremony rehearsal in the gym at 8am on June 25th.  We start this early to accommodate students writing the Science 30 Diploma exam at 9am on the day of the rehearsal.  The graduation ceremony is NOT a ticketed event.  Doors open at 10:30 am and seating is ‘in the round’.  After your student has attended the grad rehearsal they will know where they are sitting.  They can then tell you the section you should sit in (opposite them gives you the best view) when you arrive.  The school does not organize and is not responsible for the graduation banquet.  Please contact the Parent Grad Committee for information on that event.

TASTE THE WORLD—WITHOUT LEAVING YOUR KITCHEN

From German schnitze to Spanish paella, hosting an international student means sharing stories over home-cooked meals—and sometimes even getting treated to one yourself.

Just ask the two local families whose Italian students didn’t know each other before arriving, but quickly bonded over skiing and making pasta from scratch.

We can’t promise every student is a chef, but we can promise they'll bring fresh perspective, cultural exchange, and meaningful connection into your home. And no, you don’t need kids of your own or ties to the school district to apply.

Hosts also receive the 2nd highest Homestay fee in the country to help cover expenses

Remuneration will increase to $1375 per month for the 2025-26 school year and $1475 for 2026-27!

What do you need?

A full-time home in Banff or Canmore, a private bedroom, and room in your heart for a teen aged 14–17 who wants to practice English and experience life in the Rockies.

Host families are in short supply for the 2025–26 school year.
