Wolverine Weekly September 1st 2025

September 1st 2025
Dear CCHS families,
Our school staff have had a wonderful week getting to know our students and building community within their classes. We know that taking the time to get to know students at the start of a course will lead to stronger teaching and learning throughout the semester. It’s also important for you to get to know us! So, HERE is the Google Slides presentation about us that we shared on the first day of school. You can see us all in person at our Meet the Teacher event from 5-7pm on September 4th. Details are below.
We are delighted to welcome Mr. Matt Onyschuk back to our staff. In addition to teaching two STEM classes, Mr. O will again be taking on the role of Graduation and Post Secondary Advisor. Ms. Timm will continue leading our Work Experience and RAP (Trades) program and Mr. Holthuis, as a Division Principal, will support our work in this area.
Mr. Jared Strand has joined us from BCHS to teach WILD, Outdoor Ed 9 and Humanities 9. Ms. Kassandra Gamache is moving over to CCHS from LGMS to teach STEM 9, 10 and Math 20. Ms. Tori Reid returns this year to continue with Chemistry 20, 30 and she will pick up STEM 10 as well.
We look forward to welcoming back Ms. Haugan and Mme. Hiles later during this school year as they return from their leaves of absence.
One to One Device Requirement for students
CCHS is a one to one device school. All students are required to have their own computer device for class each day. Phones and tablets do not meet the criteria for this requirement as we need to comply with the Ministerial Order on Personal Devices in the classroom during teaching time. Devices should meet the criteria HERE. Much as your child might tell you they need the latest Macbook air - they don’t! All that is needed is a Chromebook like device with a keyboard that connects to the internet as CRPS platforms are accessed through the internet. A typical device that meets requirements for CCHS is between $300-500 and will be used by your child daily for the next 4 years.
We have a small number of school devices that are signed out on a block by block basis for students who may have their own device in for repair or have forgotten their charger or device for the day. These devices are not intended to be a long term solution for students.
Meet the Teacher and Open House September 4th 2024
We look forward to welcoming all families and students grades 9, 10, 11 and 12 to come to CCHS to ‘Meet the Teacher’ on September 4th from 5-7pm. Teachers will be available in rooms throughout the school so that your student can bring you to meet their teachers and you can get to know them.
In addition, that night we will hold family info sessions in the CCHS Theater. This will include essential information about your child’s journey at CCHS. Please review our Student handbook and for grade 12 families our Graduation handbook in preparation for this meeting. Both these documents are found on the CCHS website. See below for grade specific information.

SWAG Start Up
After 18 months of planning both CCHS and BCHS have rolled out our Student Wellness Advisory Groups (SWAG). The implementation of this initiative is based on data gathered in our parent and students surveys as well as input gathered from the Student Wellness Advisory Group, Student Council and the Social Justice Student Group. HERE is the presentation from the March 2025 Parent Micro Session which provides details on the why and how of this program at CCHS.
Seeking your Input - Parent Micro Sessions
Our parent micro sessions last year were a success. These sessions were a quick 30 min info sharing on topics of interest to CCHS families. With up to 60 families attending each session we are eager to get this initiative back up and running again this year. You can view all the sessions along with the Google Slides presentations we ran last year HERE
To continue with the success of this program we need your input. Please complete this quick 3 question survey HERE. In the survey we created a list of possible repeats, new ideas and a section for your ideas. Please share your ideas HERE. Once we have a good selection of ideas we will start up these sessions again.
International Student Program
Our school community is excited to welcome 28 International Program Students to CCHS from many different countries including Germany, Italy, Brazil, France, China, Netherlands, Belgium, Czech Republic, Japan, Spain, Poland and Finland. These students are here to improve their English, learn about Canadian culture and explore the beauty of the place we call home. We are fortunate to have these students here to share their worldviews with our students so we can experience a little more of the world right here at home.
Welcome Back Assembly and BBQ
We will celebrate our community with an assembly and BBQ for students on September 5th. On this day we will run a modified timetable to ensure students still attend all classes throughout the day but have time to build relationships and celebrate our fantastic school together. School still begins and ends at the same time.
Final Course Changes (Add/Drop) for Grade 12’s
Timetables were finalized for grade 9, 10 and 11 students in June. Grade 12 students who require changes to their schedule for graduation or post secondary purposes must complete those changes with Ms. Preece by 3:25 pm on Friday September 5th.
School Council Meeting
Our first School Council meeting for parents will be held in the CCHS Conference Room (with a virtual connection available) at 7pm on September 16th. We encourage all families with a student at CCHS to attend this meeting to gain a deeper understanding of our school and the opportunities provided to students. You can reach our school council directly by emailing cchsptcouncil@gmail.com
Nakoda Classic Pow Wow The Nakoda Classic Pow Wow was held this weekend in Mînî Thnî. We know many of our students and their families competed this weekend in both dancing and drumming. We hope students and families participating in this wonderful event enjoyed a joyful experience.
Thank you for your support. We look forward to continuing to work with you to support your student(s) throughout this school year.
